LAKE CHARLES –
McNeese football coaches and players took part in Saturday's Calcasieu Parish Back to School Bash at the Lake Charles Civic Center, helping issue out school supplies to the area's school students.

The Cowboys helped organize and operate a variety of games, lunch, and passed out t-shirts and supplies.

"It's important for us to get out here and help the community and let them get to know our players and staff," said first year head coach Sterlin Gilbert. "We're out here to help these kids as much as we can. It's been a fun day for our guys. We've enjoyed engaging with everyone and having fun with the kids.

"Our guys were in their jerseys and walking around, kids were talking to them and taking pictures and got an opportunity to interact with the kids."

The Back to School Bash which was hosted by the Calcasieu Parish School Board, was open to families parish-wide, but highlighted schools in the R3 Zone.

The event provided each student with free backpacks, school supplies and uniforms through a partnership with DeWanna's Community Closet.
