Winter Speed Clinic Returns to McNeese Dec. 4

LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese track and field program will their host "Winter Speed Clinic" for the first time in two years on Saturday, December 4 from 1-4 P.M. This day is specifically designed for student-athletes ages 8-18 who want to improve their speed in their particular sport from experienced coaches at an affordable price. 

Participants will train in the state-of-the-art Henning Track and Field Complex while meeting the McNeese T&F coaching staff in which they will learn effective techniques they can apply to their sport. The unique experience will give young athletes hand-on training in speed and field events from USTFCCCA and CSCS certified coaches.

Participating coaches are McNeese assistant coaches Vijay Saxena and Ben Chretien. Former Wayland Baptist University athlete Lathaniel Jeanlouis will also be on hand.

Saxena has spent six seasons at McNeese coaching the sprints, jumps, hurdles and 800m. He has previously coached football and track and field at the college and high school level and is certified by the NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and USTFCCCA Certified Combined Events, Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles and Relays Specialist. McNeese's men's team had its highest finish ever at indoor conference in spring of 2017, breaking school records in the process.  

Chretien has spent seven seasons at McNeese coaching the multis and throws. He is a certified USTFCCCA Combined Event Specialist. Starting as a walk-on, he became a 2012 Olympic Trial qualifier and NCAA All-American in the javelin while a student-athlete at McNeese. He is the former school record holder in the javelin with 245'4 and was inducted into the McNeese Hall of Fame in fall 2018. Ben, a native of Elton, Louisiana, has coached multiple Southland Conference champions and regional qualifiers including NCAA All- Americans Grace McKenzie and Morgan Woods

No equipment is needed except athletic clothing and shoes. Athletes must provide proof of physical exam conducted within the last year. Please bring either vaccination card or negative covid test within 48 hours of the camp.
