NEW ORLEANS—McNeese volleyball rallied from a two-set deficit here Saturday behind
Kendall Glueck's career high 22 kills to pick up a come from behind 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-6, 16-14) Southland Conference win over New Orleans to extend its winning streak to five matches. The win improves the Cowgirls to 15-9 overall and 9-4 in the SLC. UNO falls to 1-20 overall and 1-12 in the SLC with the setback.
Glueck, who ended the match with a .436 attack percent and six blocks, was one of two Cowgirls to record over 20 kills in the match.
Anyse Smith chipped in with 20 kills along with a .400 hitting percent.
Aryn Johnson, who entered the match as the Cowgirls kill lead picked up 11 kills along with a career high 13 digs to complete her double double. Johnson also did some damage behind the service line, picking up a career high six service aces.
Lizzy Low led McNeese with 19 digs in the back row while
Baylee Laskoskie tied her career high with 15.
Nicholls took a commanding 2-0 lead by taking the first two set before McNeese won the third set to avoid the sweep. The Cowgirls evened the match at two set apiece by winning set four by a 25-6 score.
McNeese took a 15-0 fourth set lead behind the serve of Johnson before UNO scored their first point of the set. Following a kill by Glueck, the Cowgirls then scored six straight points off the serve of Low before going on to win the set to even the match at two apiece.
UNO opened the fifth set with a 5-1 lead before McNeese rallied to tie the set at seven all on a
Macee Krpec kill. Both teams would trade points and play through seven more ties.
With the set tied at 14, another Krpec kills put the Cowgirls up 15-14 before Johnson's kill gave McNeese the 16-14 fifth set win to pick up the overall match win.
McNeese will close out its regular season next week with two hone matches, beginning with a non-conference make-up match against Prairie View next Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) before closing out the regular season next Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. Southland Conference match against Houston Baptist.
