Cowboys return home to host Crusaders at 4 on Saturday

LAKE CHARLES – After six games and 26 days since playing its last home game, the McNeese Cowboys return home on Saturday when it hosts Dallas Christian in Burton Coliseum.
 
Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game will broadcast live on the McNeese Sports Network (Magic 92.1 FM and mymagiclc.com) with a live video stream on Cowboy Insider.
 
McNeese (3-8) is coming off a hard-fought loss to UTEP on Thursday night in a game that saw the Cowboys lead for much of the contest before the Minors posted a 13-4 run in the final three minutes to pull out the win.
 
Two Cowboys will enter Saturday's game averaging double-figures in scoring – Myles Lewis with a 10.7 mark and Brendan Medley-Bacon at 10.1. Medley-Bacon also tops the team in rebounding with a 6.5 average and is sinking a team-best 61 percent of his shots.
 
As a team, McNeese is fourth in the Southland Conference in scoring with a 71.7 average and is ranked second in the league in field goal defense by holding opponents to 42.5 percent shooting. The Cowboys are third in the conference in rebounding (38.5) and second in the league in both blocked shots per game (3.9) and steals per game (10.2).
 
Individually, Medley-Bacon is sixth in the SLC in rebounding (6.5), third in FG shooting (60.9), 10th in free throw shooting (64.7), and third in blocked shots (1.2). Christian Shumate is fourth in blocked shots (1.0), Collin Warren is ninth in steals (1.6) and Zach Scott is tied for 10th in steals (1.5).
 
Dallas Christian is officially 1-2 on the season but is 2-14 when factoring in exhibition games against NCAA opponents. The Crusaders are a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association.
 
DCC has three players averaging double-digits in scoring – Nick Erves 16.3, Jairus Allen 11.5, and Jalen Perez 10.3.
 
McNeese and Dallas Christian have met just once before, that coming last December when the Cowboys posted a 140-37 win over the Crusaders.
 
In that game, McNeese broke eight school records that included 21 three-pointers made and 37 assists.
 
Next Up:
McNeese will visit Kansas State on Dec. 21 and will close out the calendar year on Dec. 30 at home against Ecclesia College.
