HOUSTON, Texas—McNeese volleyball suffered a straight set (21-25, 14-25, 19-25) Southland Conference match at Houston Baptist Saturday to fall to 2-4 on the year.
Kendall Glueck paced the Cowgirls with 12 kills and two blocks while
Regan Stiawalt led the Cowgirls with 12 digs and
Caitlin Sharrock had a team high 15 assists.
HBU was led in kills with 12 by Reagan Leinen. Ellie Wipf dished out 36 assists and Mikayla Vivens led the Huskies with 14 digs.
McNeese held an early 6-4 lead in the opening set but after several lead changes and a 20-20 tie, HBU would go on to outscore McNeese 5-1 in the final six points to take set 1.
HBU opened set two by winning the first three points then took a 4-1 lead before the Cowgirls answered with three straight points on kills by Megan Stiawalt and
Macee Krpec and an HBU error to tie it up at four apiece.
With the set tied an eight, HBU scored nine straight points to take a 17-8 led before taking the set 25-14 for a 2-0 overall match lead.
The third set was close at the beginning with the Cowgirls scoring three straight points after a 6-6 tie to take a 9-6 lead but HBU would score the next three points to tie it at nine all. Both teams traded points and a Krpec kill tied it at 11. The Huskies broke the tie with three straight points for a 14-11 lead and a one they would never give up.
McNeese got as close as 22-19 but HBU scored the final three points to take the third set and the overall match.
The Cowgirls return home for its next two matches beginning with a 6 p.m. match against New Orleans on Tuesday, March 2. The Cowgirls will also host Northwestern State Saturday, March 6 in an 11 a.m. match.
