Arvie breaks second record of the weekend

| By:
HOUSTON – McNeese Cowgirl senior thrower Alanna Arvie capped off an eventful weekend in Texas when one day after breaking the school record in the shot put at the Texas Relays, the Oberlin native broke her own record in the hammer throw at the Rice Victor Lopez Classic.

Arvie finished second in the event after throwing 198-feet, 1-inch to break her own record of 194-0 that she set almost two years to the date.

Arvie's mark wasn't the only highlight on the day for McNeese. Freshman thrower Blanche Beard recorded her first collegiate victory in the javelin event after throwing a PR mark of 142-6 while Cowboy thrower Hunter Longino surpassed the 200-foot mark in the javelin event for the first time after he threw 201-5 for a third place finish.

The Cowgirls had a couple of second place finishes on the day – Maja Gebauer in the pole vault at 12-6 and Marta Lukijaniuk in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:30.01.

On the men's side and in addition to Longino's third place finish, Ronnie Jackson placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.69.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action on April 3 when they compete at the LSU Battle on the Bayou meet.
