LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Cowgirl tennis closed out Southland Conference play on Sunday with a 6-1 loss to Stephen F. Austin.
 
The loss dropped the Cowgirls to 1-16 overall and 1-9 in league play and will miss out on this year's league postseason tournament. SFA finished 10-9 and 4-7 and will be the No. 8 seed in next week's bracket play.
 
The Cowgirls will host Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. on Saturday. They'll honor senior Sofia San Jose Moreno prior to the match.
 
On Sunday, San Jose Moreno teamed with Natalia Ballo to defeat Zala Ule and Lucy Furness 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles matchup, but the Ladyjacks would capture the point by winning the No. 2 and 3 groups by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
 
In singles action, Carlotta Romito picked up the only win for the Cowgirls after she defeated Ule 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles group.
