LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball returns to Cowgirl Diamond at Joe Miller Field this weekend to host Northwestern State in its final Southland Conference home series. The series will begin with a single game Friday at 6:30 p.m. and will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
Â
The weekend also marks senior weekend and due to the cancellation of the 2020 season, McNeese honor those seniors (Alex Flores,
Brenique Wright,
Caroline Settle,
Lauren Brown, and Ali Saldivar) around 12:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the doubleheader.
Â
Following the doubleheader, McNeese will honor its 2021 seniors (
Toni Perrin,
Rebekah DiLavore,
Tayler Strother,
Amy Reed,
Cori McCrary, and
Jenna Edwards) along with manager Katie Lee and trainer Sara (SJ) Walley.
Â
McNeese (26-22, 14-7 SLC) will enter the weekend tied for third place in the league standings according to the point accumulation system put forth by the Southland Conference to determine the regular season champion and tournament seedings. Three (3) points will be awarded for each win, one (1) for each tie and zero (0) for a loss. If there are ties among point totals, the sport's individual tie-breaking policies will come into play for seeding purposes.
Â
The Cowgirls and Southeastern La. enter the weekend tied for third place in the league standings with 42 points behind Stephen F. Austin (60) and Central Arkansas (45). McNeese is one conference win away from clinching a tournament spot.
Â
Northwestern State (19-17, 13-8 SLC) is fifth in the league standings with 42 points. The Lady Demons are coming off a marathon 15-inning, 3-2 home loss against Louisiana Tech on Tuesday and will look to snap a two-game losing streak. In their last SLC series against Sam Houston NW State won the series by winning two of the three games, including a 4-3, nine-inning win in the series opener.
Â
Kaylee Lopez continues to lead McNeese with a .339 batting average while McCrary leads with 46 hits, eight home runs, 13 doubles, and 37 runs scored and is second on the team with a .311 batting average.
Haylee Brinlee leads the Cowgirls with 33 RBI and is second on the team with seven home runs. Brinlee is batting .342 on the season. On the base paths, Perrin has swiped 23 bases in 27 attempts.
