HOUSTON – Several McNeese track and field athletes were looking to improve on their seedings heading into next week's Southland Conference Championships at the Tom Tellez Invitational hosted by the University of Houston, while others were hoping to break into the top 24 to qualify for the league meet.
That ended up occurring for several Cowboys and Cowgirls on Friday.
Sprinter
Malaiya Jedkins moved into the top 24 in the league in the 100 meters with a time of 12.15.
Dreunna Washington was the top collegiate runner to finish, clocking an 11.81 to set a new personal record.
In the women's 200-meters,
Victoria Pierson ran a 24.83 to break into the league's top 24 in the event while in the 1500-meters, both
Danna Diaz (3
rd place finish at 4:44.98) and
Ciara Gilroy (5
th, 4:47.65) are currently in range to qualify.
On the men's side,
Kameron Quinn bettered his seeding with a season-best time of 10.48 in the 100-meters while in the 110 hurdles, both Olu Ogunyemi (14.33) and
Ronnie Jackson (14.40) lowered their times and bettered the seedings.
In the 400-meters,
Ethan Rapp finished sixth with a PR time of 48.59 to move into the top 24 and in the 1500-meters,
Aaron Gilliam placed second with a time of 3:58.97 to post a new PR.
Both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams improved on their seedings by running season bests – 3:52.15 for the Cowgirls and 3:13.81 for the Cowboys.
