LAKE CHARLES – McNeese All-American defensive end
Isaiah Chambers has been named to his third preseason All-American first team of the summer when he was selected to the Phil Steele team.
The graduate student from Houston has already been tabbed preseason first team All-American by Stats Perform and Hero Sports.
In addition, Chambers was named to Phil Steele's preseason All-Southland Conference first team and named the preseason defensive player of the year by the organization.

Chambers dominated the awards following a stellar spring season that saw him lead the league and rank second in the nation with 7.5 sacks and 14 tackles for a loss. He was named the Southland Conference and Louisiana Defensive Player of the Year, earned first team All-SLC and All-Louisiana, earned first team All-American honors by the Associated Press, AFCA, Stats Perform, Hero Sports and Phil Steele, and was named FCS National Defensive Player of the Year by Phil Steele. He also was an all-star in the classroom having been named to the SLC All-Academic team, SLC Student-Athlete of the Year, and CoSIDA Academic All-District.
The Cowboys continued their fall camp on Tuesday afternoon and will hold their second preseason game on Saturday at noon in Cowboy Stadium.
McNeese opens the season on Sept. 4 at home against West Florida at noon. West Florida is the defending NCAA Division II national champion and is the No. 1 ranked team in the D2 preseason poll.
The Cowboys will follow that with back-to-back trips to Baton Rouge to face 17
th-ranked LSU on Sept. 11 and Southern on Sept. 18. After opening up Southland Conference play on Sept. 25 at UIW, McNeese will return home on Oct. 2 to face Southeastern Louisiana. Other home games have the Cowboys hosting UIW on Oct. 23, Nicholls on Nov. 6 and Northwestern State on Nov. 20.
