Cowgirls post 4th straight shutout in conference victory over Southeastern

LAKE CHARLES-  Freshman goalkeeper Jackie Kelly put forth a spectacular performance as she secured a McNeese Cowgirl (5-2-1, 2-0-0) 1-0 shutout over the Southeastern Lady Lions (1-5-0, 0-2-0)

The rainy forecast in Lake Charles was not going to get in the way of this highly competitive match between two extremely skilled teams. The Cowgirls and the preseason favorite Lady Lions were essentially split even in all aspects through 52 minutes until reigning SLC Offensive Player of the Week Havana Johnson's goal broke the tie. Both defenses were impactful as there were only three combined shots on goal in the first half, and 11 for the game. Once again, goalkeeper Jackie Kelly with the help of the defense, provided a steady presence in net as she recorded three saves.

Key Moments
52'
Rachel Young played a through ball up to Havana Johnson who connected on a perfectly timed one touch past the Lady Lion's Nadine Maher.

80' SLU's Mya Guillory connected on a shot that was aimed for the just below the crossbar until Jackie Kelly used all 5'6 of her frame to punch the ball over the center of the net with one hand.

McNeese Head Coach Drew Fitzgerald
"I thought the defense did a great job all night, they (SLU) created a couple really dangerous chances and Jackie Kelly really stepped up with that one huge save, she made a few great plays but that one in particular was amazing so she saved the game for sure. I thought on the other end we had enough chances to put the game away, their keeper came up big a couple times. It was a really good balanced game from both teams and we're just excited to get out of here with a win."

Notables:
Havana Johnson recorded her 63rd career point moving her into third place all time in Cowgirl program history. The goal, her 28th of her career was her 11th career game winning goal which is good for second all time in program history.
Jackie Kelly's shutout streak extends to four games.
Rachel Young tallied her first assist of the season.
The Cowgirls outshot Southeastern 19-7.
