Cowgirls bounce back with road win over UIW

SAN ANTONIO- The McNeese Cowgirls got back in the win column Sunday afternoon defeating Incarnate Word 2-1.

Sophomore midfielder Jillian Bech and senior forward Anna Watson provided the scoring punch for the Cowgirls. Bech scored at the 7:10 mark in the first half and that would prove to be the difference. Watson, who played 73 minutes scored in the 19th minute on a ball that found the lower left corner of the goal.

Freshman Goalie Jackie Kelly who was tested more than usual, only allowed one goal on eight shots on net by the Cardinals. The lone goal was a penalty kick in the 58th minute.

Head Coach Drew Fitzgerald
"Megan Mielke played through some pain, and Karissa Illingworth stepped up into a tough situation and played really well. Morgan Schooley also played a good 90 minutes for us. Also, Jillian Bech has upped our work rate up top and it was evident as her hard work earned us the first goal."

Notables:
McNeese Cowgirls improve to (6-3-1, 3-1-0) while Incarnate Word drops to (0-7-1, 0-2-0).

Jillian Bech is tied for first place in the Southland Conference with two game winning goals during conference play (9/10 vs Nicholls).

Anna Watson accounted for three of the seven shots on net. She leads the SLC with 19 shots in conference play.

Jackie Kelly leads all SLC goalies with a save percentage of 87.1.
