Kendall Glueck recorded a career high 14 kills and libero
Lizzy Low picked up a career high 16 digs to lead McNeese volleyball to its first Southland Conference win of the season over Nicholls Thursday night by a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 25-14) margin to improve to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in league action. The loss drops Nicholls to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the SLC.
"I'm really proud of the team tonight. All week we preached consistency and that's what we got tonight," said head coach
Kristee Porter. " We were aggressive and played low error volleyball especially in the sets that we won tonight. I'm proud of their effort tonight and how they stayed on task."
Joining Glueck with double figure kills was
Macee Krpec (13) and
Regan Stiawalt (12).
McNeese ended the match with a .301 team hitting percent and 52 digs on the night. Libero
Lizzy Low was solid in the back line for the Cowgirls again tonight, ended the match with career high 16 digs while setters
Ceci Harness and
Baylee Laskoskie were credited with 27 and 21 assists, respectively.
"Our defense gets overlooked at times but our defense does a great job, not only creating blocks and disrupting the opposition but Low (Linzy) back there stabilizes our defense along with everyone else. It's nice when you have a team that makes such good defensive effort and making plays on balls that you can kind of focus on something else. "
Nicholls was led by Emily Gauthreaux's 11 kills.
McNeese will remain home to host New Orleans at 1 p.m. Saturday.
