COLUMBUS, Ohio—McNeese women's basketball was overmatched and oversized here Sunday, falling 99-43 to No. 8 Ohio State.
McNeese (1-4) scored the first points of the game but Ohio State scored the next 26 points to take a 26-2 lead midway through the quarter and never looked back.
The Cowgirls struggled taking care of the ball for the third straight game, committing 38 turnovers in the game including 25 in the first half.
Ohio State (4-0) took advantage of Cowgirl turnovers and scored 40 of them and scored 54 points in the paint, mostly off layups.
The bright spot for the Cowgirls was sophomore
Kaili Chamberlin who was the only McNeese player to score in double figures. Chamberlin ended the game with a game high 16 points on 6 of 11 from the field and 4 of 6 from three-point range.
Divine Tanks led the Cowgirls with eight rebounds.
Ohio State had five players score in double figures with Taylor Thierry leading the Buckeyes with 15 points.
McNeese will conclude its Midwest trip at Xavier next Tuesday.
1St Quarter
McNeese scored the first two points of the game but Ohio State scored the next 26 points to take a 26-2 lead and held a 35-8 first quarter lead.
2nd Quarter
Ohio State continued to build on its lead and took advantage of several Cowgirl turnovers. McNeese committed 25 first half turnovers and Ohio State held as much as a 42 point lead with 3:07 left in the quarter.
Kaili Chamberlin scored the Cowgirls final five points of the quarter but the Cowgirls went into the half trailing 60-23.
3rd Quarter
McNeese started the quarter making 2 of 4 attempts but went on a four minute scoring drought as Ohio State held a 78-34 lead at the end of the quarter.
4th Quarter
Ohio State outscored the Cowgirls 21-9 in the quarter and held a 50 point lead four minutes into the quarter. McNeese shot 36.8 percent from the field in the quarter including 50 percent from behind the arc, making 2 of 4 attempts.
