RUSTON— McNeese women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, a 4-1 victory over Grambling Sunday afternoon in a match that was played on the Louisiana Tech campus in Ruston. Earlier in the day, the Cowgirls fell 4-0 to Louisiana Tech.
The Cowgirls opened the match by winning all three doubles to win the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead.
Singles wins by
Natalia Ballo at No. 3,
Yukina Abe at No. 4 and
Ariane Monlleo Sanchis lifted the Cowgirls to the 4-1 win. Ballo defeated Lungile Ntuli 6-1, 6-4 for her second win of the season while Abe defeated Takudzwa Mawisire 6-2, 6-3, also her second win of the season. Sanchis defeated Ana Ochoa 6-1, 6-0 for her second win of the season as well.
McNeese will host UL-Lafayette on Sunday, Feb. 13 in its home opener at 8 a.m. at the Lake Charles Racquet Club. The match is also the first of five consecutive home matches.
