LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball will look to snap a four-game losing skid when they host Southern Wednesday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.
McNeese (10-12) has won the last 11-games against Southern since 2010, the longest winning streak in the series.
The Cowgirls are coming off a series loss against Boise State, who received votes in last week's USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
"We have to adjust play more effectively. We knew Boise State would be good, but they gave up walks," said head coach James Landreneau. "We were able to extend innings and get runners onto first and second quite often, but we could not get the timely hit. Unfortunately, we gave up big runs with two outs."
Alayis Seneca leads the Cowgirls with a .346 batting average and is second on the team with a .423 slugging percentage. Seneca and Jil Poullard are tied for the most RBIs (11). Poullard also leads with a .581 slugging percentage along with ten walks, four doubles, and two home runs.
Pitcher Shaelyn Sanders (2-0) leads the Cowgirls with a 3.09 ERA and has earned five strikeouts in 22.2 innings. With a 3.17 ERA and 64.0 innings of action in the circle, Ashley Vallejo leads the Cowgirls with 46 strikeouts.
Southern (4-17) broke an eight-game losing streak during a three-game series against Arkansas Pine Bluff. The Lady Jaguars won both games of Sunday's doubleheader before falling in Monday's final game of the series.
The Lady Jaguars are led at the plate by Mariyah Sandoval's .263 batting average, .395 slugging percentage, and two doubles. In the circle, Raquel Latta (3-8) leads the staff with a 5.54 ERA, 23 strikeouts in 65.2 innings.
