Hudgens, Obregon sidelined with injuries

Bryson Hudgens
LAKE CHARLES – Two key producers for the McNeese Baseball team have been sidelined with injuries – pitcher Bryson Hudgens and designated hitter Tré Obregon III, head coach Justin Hill has announced.

Hudgens will miss the remainder of the season with a UCL injury in his elbow and will require Tommy John surgery. Obergon tore the UCL of his thumb and had surgery earlier this week which comes with a minimum of eight weeks of recovery.

"Bryson and Tré are a huge part of our program and this team will miss the impact they bring to the field," said Hill. "Although injuries are part of the game, it always hurts a little more when you've seen how much time and effort they've poured into being the best they can be.

"They have battled through adversity in the past and I expect them to win this battle as well. We have a great medical staff and support system that will help them come out on the good end of this."

Obregon, a senior who could seek a medical redshirt, was hitting .357 with two home runs and 11 RBIs, two doubles and a triple through 15 games before being sidelined and hit safely in 13 of 15 games with multiple hits in six contests.

Hudgens, a junior, started the season opener against Stony Brook for his only outing of the season, leaving after 3 1/3 innings pitched.

Hill said transfer slugger Josh Leslie has been cleared by the medical staff and should see action this weekend against Eastern Illinois. While at Mesa Community College prior to joining the Cowboys, Leslie hit .382 with 17 doubles, a triple with 36 RBIs and scored 43 runs which earned him first team all-region honors.

McNeese will open up its weekend series on Friday night at 6 against Eastern Illinois.
