SAN ANTONIO, Texas—McNeese's
Yukina Abe and
Aina Domingo-Bernabeu picked up singles wins but it wasn't enough as the Cowgirls fell 5-2 at Incarnate Word here Saturday in a Southland Conference match.
Abe, who was playing at the No. 5 singles, dropped the first set 2-6 to Taylor Parkinson then picked up a 6-1 second set win to even the match. Abe went on to win the third set tiebreaker 10-2 to pick up her third victory of the season.
Domingo-Bernabeu picked up her first win of the season with her win at the No. 3 singles. Bernabeau took the opening set 6-2 over Sophia Kermet then dropped the second set 0-6. Bernabeu closed out the match with a 6-3 third set win.
UIW (7-7, 1-1 SLC) won the doubles point to take a 1-0 early lead then picked up four singles victories to win the match.
McNeese (1-12, 0-2 SLC) will return to action next weekend when the Cowgirls travel to Loyola (New Orleans) for a 10 a.m. match Saturday, March 26 before returning to SLC play at Nicholls on Sunday, March 27 in an 11 a.m. match.
