THIBODAUX—McNeese women's tennis dropped its Southland Conference match at Nicholls here Sunday by a 5-2 score.
The loss drops the Cowgirls to 2-13 overall and 0-3 in league play while the Colonels improved to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the SLC.
McNeese opened the match by winning the No. 1 doubles match when Yukina Abe and Natala Ballo defeated Jessie Mount and Laurea Lopez 6-1. Nicholls claimed the doubles point by winning the other two doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. The Colonels claimed the overall match victory and extended their lead to 4-0 with singles wins at No. 3 where Mount defeated Aina Domingo-Bernabeu 6-4, 6-4 and Simona Maksimovic defeated Matilde Mulatero 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1.
The Cowgirls picked up it's wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Ballo defeated Lopez 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles and Ariane Monlleo Sanchis defeated Morgan Forshag in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 for the other Cowgirl win.
