Foster Selected as SLC Pitcher of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Culminating his dominant start to the season, McNeese closer Cameron Foster has been named this week's Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday. Weekly awards are presented by Geico. 

This is the first weekly honor awarded to the Houston, Texas native and Wharton JC product.

Foster recorded the second longest saves of his career in both of last week's victories against Southern and #25 Louisiana Tech. He pitched 6.0 innings (pair of three inning saves) and struck out 14 batters (21 K/9) and allowed just two hits. 

Against Southern, he entered a 4-3 ballgame in the seventh and recorded all 9 outs via the strikeout. Against the Bulldogs, he pitched 3.0 innings and faced the minimum in two of those to finish the series finale. He struck out 2 of the last 3 batters in the ninth inning and then induced a game-ending grounder to third. 

Foster had not allowed a hit through his first 8.2 innings pitched this season. He is up to 20 strikeouts in 10.1 innings to go along with a 0.87 ERA. He ranks third in the country with four saves.

INF Peyton Johnson was an honorable mention for hitter of the week after a 5-13 (.385), two home run, and five RBI showing against Southern and Louisiana Tech. Johnson had a sac-fly and a single at Southern and hit his first two homers of the season against Tech. His first of the year came Friday night against La. Tech All-American pitcher Jonathan Fincher, In the series finale against Tech, Johnson went 3-4 with a home run and two runs driven in to help secure victory. Both of his RBIs came following an inning in which Tech scored. 

McNeese will play at LSU tomorrow, Wednesday, March 9th at 6:30 PM.
