FRISCO, Texas – McNeese swept the Southland Conference women's outdoor track and field athletes of the week award –
Dreunna Washington capturing the track accolade while
Janell Fullerton the field portion. The awards are presented by GEICO.
Washington recorded two second-place finishes at the NSU Leon Johnson Invite in both the 100m and 200m. The sophomore clocked a personal record in the 200m with a time of 23.66 and lifting her into the No. 1 spot in the conference.
Fullerton was also a double-winner at the NSU Leon Johnson Invite with wins in the shot put and discus. She recorded personal records in both the discus and javelin events. She continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the conference in the shot put while moving up to No. 2 in the league in the discus and fifth in the javelin.
The duo is the third and fourth weekly award selections for the Cowgirls this season. Javelin thrower
Blanche Beard earned the field award on March 16 while
Sakari Famous was named top field performer in the high jump on April 6.
In addition, Cowboy distance runner
Aaron Gilliam earned weekly honorable mention honors for track athlete of the week.
