CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The McNeese Cowboys (25-18, 11-6) won their eighth straight conference game after erasing a 3-0 deficit with a four-run seventh inning leading to a 7-3 comeback against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (20-24, 5-12) Saturday night at Chapman Field.
Shortstop Reid Bourque played in career game no. 223, surpassing Andrew Guillotte (2012-15) and Joe Provenzano (2015-18) for the all-time program lead.
"There have been more highs than lows during my ride at McNeese and for that I am thankful," said Reid Bourque. "A lot of answered prayers have gone into this and God has had my back the entire way. Pokes aren't done yet!"
Chance Stone (3-2) recorded the winning after keeping the Pokes within striking distance with a career-best 6-inning outing. Stone allowed just two earned runs on seven hits to go along with four strikeouts. Cameron Foster recorded his 11th save of the season pitching the final two innings allowing no hits and striking out two.
For the second-straight day, the Pokes were led by Andruw Gonzales' three-hit effort, Payton Harden drove in three runs on two hits, and Braden Duhon added a multi-hit performance.
The Islanders were first to score this evening when Max Puls hit a solo homer to right in the second, and they'd pushed the lead to 3-0 after runs in the fourth and sixth.
After scoring six runs in the seventh in game one, the Cowboys put forth an encore in game two to take the lead for good.
Andruw Gonzales' single followed by walks from Reid Bourque and Kade Morris loaded the bases with no outs to knock out Islander starter, Zach Garcia.
"This team is relentless. We know we're never out of the fight until the final out is made. I wouldn't want any other guys by my side," remarked Bourque.
Back-to-back singles by Braden Duhon and Payton Harden (2-run) tied the game at three and Brad Burckel's RBI groundout gave the Pokes the lead.
Kade Morris' sac-fly and another RBI hit by Payton Harden gave McNeese two more insurance runs in the eighth and they'd add another one on Andruw Gonzales' single in the ninth.
