Jedkins, Talley clinch NCAA spot with PRs in triple jump

Morgan Talley and Malaiya Jedkins celebrate after their regional-clinching jumps.

NATCHITOCHES - McNeese's Malaiya Jedkins and Morgan Talley saved the best triple jumps of their collegiate career for last… literally.

Competing at the Northwestern State last chance meet on Sunday, the duo each recorded new personal records in the event on their final jumps and the reward was a qualifying mark for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

Jedkins won the event with a mark of 41-8 while Talley, who just started the triple jump this season to compete in the heptathlon, also recorded a leap of 41-8.

Dreunna Washington also solidified her postseason spot in the long jump with a mark of 20-2.50.

The three are eight qualifiers for McNeese at this year's NCAA East meet with three others on the bubble.

Joining Jedkins and Talley for the NCAA East Prelims will be Janell Fullerton in the shot put, Blanche Beard the javelin, Sakari Famous in the high jump, Dreunna Washington the long jump, Jalon White the 400-meters and the men's 4x400 relay team of Richard Lee, Ondray Miles, Terrill Banks and White.

On the bubble are Ronnie Jackson in the 110-meter hurdles, Zac Martin in the 100-meter dash and Joey Croft in the 3000m steeplechase.

Entry declarations will begin on Monday night at 8 p.m. and will end on Tuesday. Final entries will be announced on Wednesday.

The NCAA East Preliminary Meet will take place May 25-28 in Bloomington, Indiana.
