SAN ANTONIO, Texas—McNeese volleyball ended the UTSA Invitational Saturday on a positive note by walking away with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-18) win over South Florida to end tournament play.
McNeese dropped the opening set then evened the match with the second set win. From this point on, McNeese dominated the rest of the match to improve to 2-8 on the year. The loss drops South Florida to 4-5 on the year.
McNeese (2-8) ended the match with its best hitting percent (.221) this season.
Kendall Glueck led McNeese with 12 kills while
Sanni Rantanen added nine. Glueck and
McKenzie Moore both ended the match with five blocks apiece.
Kendall Osgood was credited with 15 digs and
Bailey Tillman ended the match with 12.
South Florida (4-5) had three players with double figure kills with Maria Clara Andrade leading all players with 17.
McNeese will host Texas Southern next Tuesday, Sept. 13 in its home opener. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Legacy Center. Admission is free for all home matches.
Set 1
The set went back and forth. USF held a 22-18 lead but the got within two (22-20) but UCF held on for the 25-22 win.
Set 2
Just like the first set, set 2 went back and forth until the set was tied at 20 apiece. McNeese ended the set on a 5-1 run to win the set 25-21 to even the match at one set apiece
Set 3
McNeese took a 3-2 lead and never looked back. USF got as close as one point (7-6) but a 10-1 run by the Cowgirls extended the lead to 17-7. The Cowgirls didn't let up as they went on to win the set 25-14 to take a 2-1 match lead.
Set 4
With the score tied at four, McNeese scored five straight points to take a 9-4 lead then extended the lead to 19-9. Three straight points off the serve of
Nadia Manitzas put the Cowgirls up 22-11. McNeese took advantage of several USF errors late in the set to seal the 25-18 win.
