LAKE CHARLES—McNeese soccer missed several scoring opportunities in its 2-1 Southland Conference home opening loss to Southeastern Sunday evening.

McNeese (3-4-0, 1-1-0 SLC) took an early 1-0 lead in the 31st minute when two freshmen connected on a cross following a throw in that gave McNeese the early lead. Matilde Tesgaard scored her first career goal and Avery Baker was credited with her first career assist.

Southeastern (3-2-0, 1-0-0) tie the game at one apiece off a goal by Sara Bancevic in the 35th minute off a shot from the middle of the box.

Southeastern took the 2-1 lead off Nicole O'Neill's in the 64th minute and the goal would turn out to be the game winning goal.

McNeese was on the attack late in the game and missed a chance to tie the game when Rachel Young's rocket of a shot ricocheted off the left post with 15 minutes left in the game.  McNeese also had several corner kicks late in the contest but couldn't score the equalizer.

Young, who missed the last two games, led McNeese with three shots. Tesgaard and Megan Mielke were both credited with two shots apiece.

Mya Guillory led the Lad Lions with three shots.

McNeese will remain home to host Texas A&M-Commerce in a 7 p.m. Southland Conference game this Friday, Sept. 16.
