LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball dropped a 3-2 (28-26, 19-25, 25-10, 26-28, 18-20) marathon Southland Conference match to Northwestern State Saturday with three sets going extra points along with 39 ties.
 
McNeese (5-11, 1-1 SLC) took the opening set 28-26 on a Mikayla Christiansen kill and a NW State attack error for the win with the set tied at 26.
 
NW State (9-5, 2-1 SLC) evened the match with a second set 25-19 win then a third set 25-10 win by the Cowgirls gave McNeese a 2-1 match lead.
 
McNeese let a 23-21 lead slip away in the fourth set and were one point away from winning the match leading 26-25 after a NW State serving error. NW State would go on to win the next three points on two kills by Symone Wesley and one kill by Jordan Gamble to win the set 28-26 to even the match at two sets apiece.
 
NW State scored the first three points of the fifth set, but the Cowgirls fought back to tie the set. The lead would change hands several times and another kill by Christiansen put McNeese up 18-17.  NW State would go on to the final three points with two of the three coming off Cowgirl errors to win the set and the match.
 
McNeese will return home next Saturday to host UNO in a 1 p.m. match.
 
 
 
McNeese Notes
• Three McNeese players recorded double figure kills and four had double figure assists
• Kendall Glueck led all players with 19 kills
• Nejra Hanic was credited with 14 kills and Mikayla Christiansen had 13
• Bailey Tillman ended the match by leading McNeese with 29 digs
• Lizzy Low had 24 digs
• For the second straight match Mia Perales recorded a double double (33 assists, 13 digs)
• Nadia Manitzas was credited with a season high 11 digs
• Sanni Rantanen tied her season high with three aces
• Several volleyball alumni were on hand and were recognized between 2nd and 3rd set on Alumni Day
