LAKE CHARLES - McNeese soccer (7-5-2, 4-1-1 SLC) defeated Northwestern State (4-10-0, 2-5-0 SLC) 2-0 at Cowgirl Field Friday night to finish the season sweep.
"I think the win tonight was big and it puts us points wise in a good spot right now," said head coach
Drew Fitzgerald. "I think our team played the best game they've played all year."
Junior
Kaile Kukaua netted the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of play after connecting with senior
Martine Ellefsen.
"I think the goal definitely shifted the momentum even though we came in pretty strong, it still kept us going strong," said Kukaua about her goal.
Sophomore
Alexis Theiler placed an insurance goal in the net with just under nine minutes to play for the second goal of the night, receiving a ball from senior
Magalie Depot.
"It feels really good to come in and get this win, especially to win against Northwestern State again," said Theiler."
The Cowgirls return to action at home Sunday evening at 5 p.m. against Southeastern on ESPN+.

- Kelly earned her eighth career shutout which ties her for the fourth-most in McNeese history.
- Kelly moves up the all-time board in saves as well, surpassing sixth-place with 150 career saves.
