VB: Cowgirls Pick Up Straight Set Win Over UIW

LAKE CHARLES— For the second straight match, Carissa Chainey and Kayla Wilson led the McNeese offense and Bailey Tillman and Kendall Osgood led the defense in a Southland Conference volleyball straight set (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) win over Incarnate Word Thursday afternoon.
 
The win is the third straight win and the Cowgirls have won 10 of its last 13 matches.
 
McNeese (12-14, 10-3 SLC) will host Texas A&M-Commerce at 11 a.m. Saturday in its third and final match of the week.
 
The loss for UIW, drops them to 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the SLC.
 
Chainey led all players with 18 kills while Wilson was credited with 17 kills and led the Cowgirls with a .412 hitting percent.
 
Tillman led all players with 22 digs on the night and Osgood picked up 10.
 
Setter Emma Hendricks dished out a match high 40 assists along with three of the five Cowgirl aces on the day.
 
As a team, McNeese hit .325 for the match including a .440 hitting percent in the opening set.
 
UIW was led in kills by Allison Palmi's 11.
 
 
SET 1
• After four ties and one lead change, McNeese took control of the set on a Wilson kill for a 12-10 lead
• Two more points off McKenzie Moore's serve gave the Cowgirls a 14-10 lead
• A kill by Chainey put the Cowgirls up 18-13
• McNeese went on a 7-3 run aided by three out of the four final Cowgirl points coming from kills from Wilson to win the set
 
SET 2
• Moore broke a 5-5 tied with a kill to give McNeese a 6-5 lead and one they wouldn't give up
• An 8-2 run by the Cowgirls extended the lead to 14-7
• UIW pulled to within three points a few times down the stretch and the last time at 23-20
• Kills by Moore and Wilson gave the Cowgirls the set win to take a 2-0 match lead
 
SET 3
• UIW held a 14-11 lead but a 4-1 run by the Cowgirls tied the set at 15 apiece
• McNeese went on a 6-0 run behind the serve of Emma Hendricks to take a 21-15 lead
• With McNeese leading 22-17, UIW went on a mini run behind four points off the serve of Natalie Kimmel to cut the lead to one point 22-21.
• After each team scored each a point on the next two rallies, Wilson ended the set on back-to-back kills for the win.
 
 
MATCH NOTES
• It's the second of three matches this week and first of two straight home matches this week
• McNeese will host Texas A&M-Commerce at 11 a.m. Saturday
• It's the second win over UIW this season and the sixth straight win over the Cardinals
• McNeese has won 10 of its last 13 matches
• For the second straight match, Carissa Chainey and Kayla Wilson provided the offense.  Chainey recorded a match high 18 kills wile Wilson added 17 kills and led the Cowgirls with a .412 hitting percent
• For the second straight match, Bailey Tillman and Kendall Osgood were solid in the back row.  Tillman led all players with 22 digs while Osgood recorded double figure digs for the sixth straight match
• McNeese was credited with five aces
• Setter Emma Hendricks led McNeese with three of the five aces while dishing out a match high 40 assists
