LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Track & Field and Cross Country programs will hold its annual M5K Cowboy Gallop on Saturday that will also include a Kids 1K Fun Run and Walk.
The 5K event will have a start time of 8:05 a.m. and will begin on the north side of the track and field facility while the 1K run will begin at the south end of the track facility and will start when the 5k runners begin coming through. McNeese track and field/cross country athletes will accompany the kids to the finish line, which will end at the 50-yard line in Cowboy Stadium.
McNeese Cowboys basketball head coach Will Wade will start the race off.
The 3.1-mile route will include McNeese Street, Common Street, Sale Road, Ryan Street then onto Jefferson Street, Contour Street, back to Common and then onto Cowboy Drive where it will lead into Cowboy Stadium.
An awards ceremony will follow at approximately 9:45 a.m. at the Alumni Pavilion.
CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS RANKED IN REGIONAL POLLS
The McNeese Cowboy and Cowgirl cross country teams, coming off a sweep at the Cowboy Stampede a couple of weeks ago, continue to hold down a spot in the USTFCCCA South Central Region Top 15 polls.
The Cowboys moved up one spot to No. 9, moving ahead of Rice. The Cowboys are the third-highest ranked Southland Conference team in the poll, following No. 5 UIW and No. 8 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Cowgirls dropped one spot to No. 12 but are the second-highest Southland squad in the poll, following No. 10 Lamar.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will return to action next Friday, Oct. 13, when they participate in the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invite in the final meet before the Southland Conference Championships on Oct. 27 in San Antonio.
