WBB: Cowgirls Fall 88-67 To Milwaukee-Wisconsin

LAKE CHARLES—Milwaukee-Wisconsin's Kendall Nead was nearly unstoppable Friday in helping the Panthers to an 88-67 win over McNeese women's basketball on the second day of its MTE.  The Panthers also ended the game with a season high 13 three-pointers on the night.
 
Nead scored a career high 38 points and was one of three Panthers (1-3) to score in double figures.  Nead scored 15 of the Panthers' first 21 points of the game and ended the game making 17 of her 23 attempts including 3 of 5 three-pointers.
 
McNeese (1-3) was led by a career high 18 points from Mireia Yespes who was 5 of 7 from the field and 8 of 9 of her attempts from the free throw line.  Yespes was joined in double figures by Azjah Reeves who chipped in with 10 points.  Yespes, who came off the bench also led McNeese with six rebounds.
 
As a team, McNeese ended the game shooting 44.7 percent from the field 38.5 percent from behind the arc.  
 
Milwaukee-Wisconsin held a 21-15 advantage after the first quarter with but McNeese went on a scoring 10-2 run in the second quarter to take 30-29 lead on a three-pointer by Reeves.
 
The Panthers answered with a 10-3 run to close out the half for a 39-33 lead.
 
McNeese opened the second half with a three-pointer by Mofalk to pull to withing three points (39-33) but a 10-4 run by Milwaukee-Wisconsin pushed the lead back to double digits (49-37).  A field goal by Yespes on the next Cowgirl possession cut the lead to 10 but a trey by Kamy Peppler pushed the lead back to 13 points.  The Cowgirls would get as close as 12 points later in the third before the Panthers opened up a 20-point lead midway through the fourth quarter and held as much as a 26-point lead with 3:48 to play.
 
The MTE will conclude Saturday with Milwaukee-Wisconsin facing Mississippi Valley State at 1 p.m. and McNeese and UL-Monroe concluding the MTE with a 4 p.m. tip.
