LAKE CHARLES—McNeese Women's basketball got career highs from four of its five players that scored in double figures in its 107-77 win over North American University Tuesday afternoon that snapped a four-game losing streak.
Cristin Gil led the Cowgirls (2-4) with 23 points while
Emilia Tenbrock chipped in 20. Gil was also credited with 13 rebounds for her first career double double and was one of two Cowgirls to record double doubles in the game.
Julia Puente also ended the game with her first career double double (16 pts., 14 reb.) and Ana Cabañas scored 14 points.
The 107 points is the most points scored by a Cowgirl team since its 110-26 win over Ecclesia last season. The Cowgirls will host Ecclesia on Sunday at 1 p.m. following its first road game of the season this Friday at No. 14/18 Baylor.
McNeese ended the game with a 46.4 field goal shooting percent on 36 of 76 attempts and scored 50 of its points in the paint, something the opposing team has done against McNeese in the previous four games. The Cowgirls also had a good shooting night from behind the arc, making a season high 11 treys. Gill was 4 of 7 and Tenbrock was 3 of 4 from behind the arc.
Another area the Cowgirls dominated was on the glass where McNeese outrebounded the Stallions 64-29.
The Stallions kept the game close for the first half trailing by only eight points after the first quarter, but the Cowgirls increased its lead to as much as 14 points with 6:16 left in the first half.
NAU erased the Cowgirls' 14-point lead and held a 41-40 halftime lead.
McNeese regained the lead on the first possession of the second half on a layup by Cabañas and went on to outscore NAU 38-18 in the third quarter to lead 78-59. The Cowgirls hit the century mark on two free throws by Galunic with 5:11 to play and held its largest lead of the night 105-69 with 1.57 to play.
