WBB: Berry Ties Career High In Loss At No. 14 Baylor


WACO, Texas—  Baylor women's basketball, the 14th ranked team in the nation, set a new program record with 17 three-pointers made on its way to a 124-44 win over McNeese Friday afternoon to remain undefeated at 4-0 on the season. All 13 Baylor players who saw action scored and seven of the 13 scored in double figures.
 
For the Cowgirls (2-5), freshman Boston Berry tied her career high and led McNeese with 12 points including the first six McNeese points of the game.  Berry was the only McNeese player to score in double figures.  Berry also led the Cowgirls with six rebounds which is also a career high.
 
Bell Fontleroy led Baylor with a game high 19 points and Dre'Una lead all players with 13 rebounds.  
 
Baylor scored the first six points of the game before Berry took matters into her own hands in the first four minutes of the game to score the Cowgirls' first six points of the game.  A 9-0 run by McNeese put the Cowgirls up 11-8.
 
The Bears then went on a 7-0 run to take a 15-11 lead late in the first quarter and led 23-17 after the first quarter.  McNeese wouldn't get any closer.
 
Baylor outscored McNeese 30-4 in the second quarter with all four Cowgirl points coming from the free throw line to hold a commanding 53-21 lead at the half.
 
The Bears scored 20 of their first half points off 13 Cowgirl turnovers including 22 points in the pain and 21 off rebounds.  Baylor shot 43 percent from three-point range, making 10 of its 23 attempts in the first half.
 
McNeese struggled from the field in the first half, making 7 of 25 from the field and was only 1 of 8 from three-point range.
 
Baylor outscored McNeese 71-23 in the second half with 54 points coming from the paint and 50 off 17 second half Cowgirl turnovers.
 
1st Quarter
• Baylor opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers to take an early lead before the Cowgirls went on a 9-0 run to lead 11-8
Boston Berry scored the first six McNeese points
• Baylor went on a 7-0 run to lead 15-11 but the Cowgirls tied it at 15 on a reverse layup by Cristina Gil
• Baylor ended the quarter on an 8-2 run to lead 23-17
 
2nd Quarter
• Baylor opened the second quarter on an 13-0 run to extend its lead to 36-17
• Baylor held McNeese to four second quarter points with all four points coming from the free throw line
• McNeese scored its first point of the quarter on one of two free throws by Azjah Reeves with 5:20 left in the quarter
• McNeese didn't make a field goal in the quarter. All four of its points came from the free throw line.
 
3rd Quarter
• McNeese scored its first field goal since 1:38 left in the first quarter on a jumper by Ana Cabanas with 7:31 left in the third quarter
• Baylor outscored McNeese 37-11 in the quarter
• Baylor scored 20 of their 37 points in the paint and 15 off Cowgirl turnovers
 
4th Quarter
• Baylor continued to dominate the inside game and outscored McNeese 34-12 in the final quarter
 
McNeese will return home Sunday to host Ecclesia College at 1 p.m.

• Freshman Boston Berry tied her career high with 12 points to lead McNeese in scoring
• Berry also led the Cowgirls with six rebounds, also a career high
• Berry scored the Cowgirls first six points of the game
• McNeese was 11 of 16 from the free throw line
