MANHATTAN, Kan.— No. 13 Kansas State (8-1) scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back on its way to a dominating 101-39 win over McNeese (3-6) Wednesday night. It's the fourth time this season K-State holds its opponent under 40 points.
Not only did K-State dominate in points scored, the much taller and more athletic Wildcats dominated the boards as well by outrebounding McNeese 58-27. K-State also ended the game with a season high 12 blocks.
McNeese's offense never got on track due to the K-State defense who caused 24 turnovers including 14 in the first half.
Alva Mofalk and
Emilia Tenbrock both led the Cowgirls in scoring with 10-point apiece. The 10 points for Mofalk ties her career high.
Azjah Reeves led McNeese with five rebounds.
K-State placed four players in double figure scoring. Gabby Gregory led all players with 16 points. Ayoka Lee scored 15 points, Gisela Sanchez added 12 points, and Brylee Glen chipped in with 11 points.
McNeese was held to a 25.8 field goal shooting percent (16 of 62) and 50.0 percent from the free throw line, making four of eight attempts.
K-State shot 51.9 percent from the field (40 of 77) and 82.4 percent from the free throw line on 14 of 17 attempts.
The Cowgirls opened the game by missing its first five shot in the first four minutes before
Julia Puente scored the Cowgirls' first basket of the game nearly four minutes into the opening quarter.
K-State ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 18-4 and opened the second quarter by scoring the first 20 points to lead 38-4 before
Alva Mofalk ended the Cowgirl scoring drought which was nearly 10 minutes since last scoring with 5:14 left in the first quarter with a layup.
The Wildcats came out in the second quarter to score the first 20 points of the quarter and outscored McNeese 28-12 in the quarter to lead 46-16 at the half.
McNeese was 7 of 29 from the field in the first half while K-State was 19 of 44 from the field including three 3-pointers.
K-State opened the second half like they did the previous two quarters, this time on a 12-0 run in the first four minutes of the quarter.
McNeese will travel to Baton Rouge next Tuesday to face No. 7 LSU. The Cowgirls will return home next Thursday, Dec. 14 in a 5:30 p.m. game against Centenary.
