WBB: Cowgirls Host Lamar In Battle of the Border

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese women's basketball will begin the second half of Southland Conference action this Thursday, Feb. 2 by hosting Lamar in its Battle of the Border game.  Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Legacy Center.
 
The game will also be a white out game in which the first 250 McNeese students will receive a free t-shirt.  As in recent games played on Thursday, there will $1 beer sold on the CITGO Poke Plaza level.
 
McNeese (8-12, 5-4 SLC) enters the game tied for fourth place in the league standings with Northwestern State.  The Cowgirls have won four of its last five game and are coming off a 78-61 road loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday that snapped a four-game winning streak.
 
The Cowgirls will look to avenge an 82-61 loss at Lamar (10-10, 4-5 SLC) in the SLC opener on Dec. 31.  The Cardinals are coming off a 54-52 loss at Northwestern State last Saturday and have lost four of their last six games.

- It's the Battle of the Border (White Out) and Thirsty Thursday
- It's also the second meeting of the season with the Cardinals winning 82-61 in Beaumont in the SLC
opener on Dec. 31.
- The McNeese holds a 41-35 series record and a 20-17 home record against Lamar. The Cardinals have won the last 11 meetings. McNeese's last win over Lamar came in an 88-78 win at the SLC Tournament in Katy on Feb. 11, 2016. The last home win over Lamar was a 92-84 win on Feb. 20, 2016.
- McNeese is coming off a 78-61 road loss at league leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday that snapped the Cowgirls four game winning streak. McNeese enters the game having won four of its last five games.
- McNeese continues to lead the league in scoring in conference games, averaging 67.8 ppg. The Cowgirls also lead the league with a 45.6 field goal percent, assists (15.9), is tied for first in steals (9.78), and is second in rebounds (37.9).
- Paris Mullins continues to lead McNeese in scoring (9.9 ppg.). Mullins has scored in double figures in three of the last five games.
- Divine Tanks continues to lead the team with 5.6 rpg. overall and is averaging 5.4 rpg. in conference games. Tanks leads the league with a 58.7 field goal percent in conference games.
