FRISCO, Texas – McNeese swept the Southland Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards for the fifth week of the 2023 season, with Morgan Talley and Mariah Lee taking home the awards announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Morgan Talley, McNeese - Sr. - Rockwall, Texas (Rockwall-Heath HS)
Talley broke the school record in the 60 meter hurdles twice at the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge. She broke the record for the first time in the first round with an 8.45 time, then clocked an 8.35 in the semifinals. Talley ended up placing fourth in the finals and her time is ranked No. 1 in the SLC and 11th in the South Central Region. This is her second weekly award of the indoor season, having previously won Field Athlete of the Week as a pentathlete.
Honorable Mention: Maygan Shaw, Northwestern State.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Mariah Lee, McNeese - Jr. - Corsicana, Texas (Corsicana HS)
Lee improved on her SLC-best in the weight throw with a mark of 17.90 meters (58' 8 3/4") at the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge and a new personal record.. She is now ranked No. 10 in the NCAA South Central Region. This is her third Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season.
Honorable Mention: Reem Tammam, HCU.
