SB: Cowgirls Open Series At Lamar With DH Win

BEAUMONT, Texas-  McNeese Softball defeated Lamar Friday 7-3, 4-2 in a doubleheader to clinch the series.  The series will conclude with a 12 p.m. game Sunday.
 
With the win, McNeese improves to 25-10 overall and 8-0 in league play and extends its winning streak to six games and the Cowgirls now have won 11 of their last 12 games.  The loss drops Lamar to 10-24 overall and 3-5 in the SLC.
 
McNeese combined for 22 hits on the day with 11 in each game. Alayis Seneca and Crislyne Moreno both led the Cowgirls with four hits apiece on the day. Moreno also hit her second home run of the season in the game two win.
 
Ashley Vallejo picked up the win in the opening game to improve to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the SLC.  Whitney Tate picked up her first save of the season in game one.  Shaelyn Sanders was the winner in game two to improve to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in the SLC.  Freshman Lindsay Davis picked up her third save of the year in relief of Sanders in game two.
 
 
GAME 1
T2- McNeese stranded two runners on second and third with two outs when the Cowgirls attempted to score on a ground out third and Moreno was thrown out at home to end the threat.
 
T3- Mariana Torres gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead with a two out RBI to left that scored Alayis Seneca and Reese Reyna (McN 2, LU 0)
 
B4- Lamar cut the Cowgirls lead to 2-1 with a two out triple by Kaylee Ancelot then scored on a Cowgirl error. (McN 2, LU 1)
 
T5- Kaylee Lopez with a two RBI double through the left field (McN 4, Lamar 1)
Lamar pulled to within one run off a two-run home run by Sam Bean in the bottom of the inning (McN 4, LU 3)
 
T6- Bouvier singled in Alayis Seneca and Moreno double to left center for two more runs (McN 7, LU 3)
 
GAME 2
T3- Cowgirls scored the first run of the game on a squeeze bunt by Reese Reyna that scored Delaney Dunham from third (McN 1, LU 0)
 
B4- Ancelot's RBI double tied the game (McN 1, LU 1)
 
T5- Reese Reyna's RBI singled to center that scored Delaney Dunham to regain the lead (McN 2, LU 1)
 
T6- Crislyne Moreno hit her second home run this season to extend the lead (McN 3, LU 1)
 
T7- Moreno's RBI single to left scored Rylie Bouvier (McN 4, LU 1)
 
B7- Lamar added a run in bottom of the inning (McN 4, LU 2)
 
Doubleheader Notes
•- The wins extend the Cowgirls' winning streak to six games
•- The Cowgirls have also won 11 of their last 12 games
McNeese collected 22 hits on the day, 11 in each game
•- Five Cowgirls picked up two hits apiece in the opening game
•- Of the 11 hits in the first game, three were doubles
•- McNeese had three stolen bases
•- Ashley Vallejo improved to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the SLC this season.  With the win, Vallejo also improved to 12-0 in the SLC dating back to last season.
