WTEN: Sanchis' Match Win Gives Cowgirls 4-3 Win Over Lamar

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis picked up an important 4-3 Southland Conference win over Lamar Monday in an intense and competitive match to lift the Cowgirls' record to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play and more importantly kept the Cowgirls in the hunt for a Southland Conference title.
 
McNeese heads into its final two regular season matches in second place, one match behind league leaders Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (18-2, 5-0 SLC).  The Cowgirls and Islanders will fac off in Lake Charles on Wednesday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.  McNeese will conclude its regular season at home Saturday against Incarnate Word in an 11 a.m. match.
 
Ariane Monlleo Sanchis' three-set tiebreaking win over Megan Do was the deciding point in the win.  Sanchis dropped the first set 3-6 then evened the match at one set apiece with her second set 6-3 win.  The third set went to a tiebreaker where Sanchis won 7-6 (7-2) to claim the win.
 
Lamar (10-8, 2-2 SLC) won the singles point to take the early 1-0 lead but a straight set win by McNeese's Maria Wang Martinez on Court 5 evened the match at one apiece.  With the win, Wang improves to 16-1 on the year and remains undefeated in the SLC at 5-0.
 
The Cardinals retook the lead on a win on Court 3 but wins by the Cowgirls on Court 4 by Natalia Ballo and Court 1 by Emma-Lou Pommiers put the Cowgirls up 3-2.  Lamar evened the match at three all with a win on Court 2, setting up the deciding finish on Court 6 where Sanchis picked up the win.
