HOUSTON – McNeese track and field will compete at the Rice Fred J. Duckett Twilight Meet on Saturday in its final appearance before the May 4-6 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
Events will begin at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw followed by running events starting at 1:30. Schools competing in addition to McNeese and Rice are Houston Christian, Texas Southern, Houston, Sam Houston, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, UTSA, UT-Tyler, Dallas Baptist, Cameron, New Orleans, Nicholls, North American, Our Lady of the Lake, Prairie View, St. Edward's, TAMU-Kingsville and UTRGV.
In the latest USTFCCCA conference rankings, the Cowgirls, who are the defending Southland outdoor champions, are currently ranked No. 2 in the league while the Cowboys are ranked fourth.
Nationally, the Cowgirls are ranked in the top 40 in three events – javelin (31
st), discus (35
th, and hammer (38
th) while on the men's side, the javelin squad is ranked 24
th in the nation.
Individual conference top three rankings for the Cowgirls include:
Mariah Lee and
Chloe Hernandez No. 1 and 2 in the hammer throw,
Blanche Beard is No. 2 in the javelin,
Reese Grossie is third in the discus,
Kayla Harrison is third in the 400-meters,
Marta Pascoa is No. 3 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Reagan West is third in the 100-meter hurdles, and the 4x400 relay team of
Jordan Carter,
Kayla Warner,
Boluwatife Akinwande and Harrison are third in that event.
