FRISCO, Texas – Podium performances by McNeese's Jacob Kipkogei and Southeastern's Slako Stevic won them the Southland Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards for the third week of the 2023 season, as announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: Jacob Kipkogei, McNeese - Jr. - Eldoret, Kenya (Chebonet Secondary School)
Kipkogei placed third at the Texas Relays in the 10,000 meters with a personal best time of 31:07.44. That time ranks him No. 1 in the Southland Conference and eighth in the South Central Region.
Honorable Mention: Kolyn Saltzman, New Orleans
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: Slavko Stevic, Southeastern - Jr. - Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia
Stevic had his best high jump of the 2023 outdoor season at the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays as he took home the silver medal from Austin, equaling the highest jump of the event at 2.17 meters (7 '1.5"). That jump bettered his own Southland Conference-leading mark, moved him to No. 2 in the South Central region, just 0.01m back of the region leader, and moved him up to No. 8 in all of Division I in the high jump following the weekend.
