Cowgirls narrowly drop Sunday matchup to Bulldogs

RUSTON, La. - The McNeese soccer program (1-3-0) fell to Louisiana Tech (2-1-1) Sunday afternoon 1-0 as the two teams matched up at Robert Mack Caruthers Field in the sweltering heat.

"I think our team battled today as we're down five or six people that normally start," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "Just having the grit to battle the whole day and having chances late. I think the continuous improvement is good and I think as we get players back, we're going to be fine."

The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the game for a 1-0 advantage in the 56th minute of play. It marked the third-longest time this season the Cowgirls were able to hold off an opponent from scoring.

Senior Briana O'Dell made the start in the net for the blue and gold, facing two shots in the first half while earning two saves in the process. She stacked up five more saves in the second half of play, staying in for the whole match.

McNeese returns home to host its first home match of the season against Texas Southern at 6 p.m. Friday night.
