LAKE CHARLES - The McNeese Cowgirls Soccer program fell 2-1 in its first exhibition of the season against UL-Lafayette Wednesday evening at Cowgirl Field.
"I think we learned a lot about ourselves for sure," said head coach
Drew Fitzgerald. "I think we're okay. It was a great first night and UL-Lafayette looks good right now so they'll be a team to watch. It's exactly what we needed tonight."
Scoring for the first time in her collegiate career, redshirt freshman
Alexi Pitt placed the first goal of the evening into the net in the 17th minute to put the Cowgirls up 1-0.
"Lexi has been a star since she came back in the spring," praised Fitzgerald. "She's been a star all along so it was good to see her get it, but we know good things are going to come to her."
Just shy of the 28th minute, the Ragin' Cajuns scored a goal and later took the lead in the 72nd minute which they held on to for the win.
The game was played in three 30-minute periods with breaks in between each. McNeese attempted nine total shots in the performance while UL-Lafayette took 23. The Cowgirls had five saves on the night with senior
AnnMarie Snead and junior
