Two late goals lead McNeese to victory over Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. - McNeese's soccer program (5-4-2, 2-0-1 SLC) defeated Northwestern State (4-7-0, 2-2-0 SLC) 2-0 with two late goals in the final six minutes of play to claim its second conference victory at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex Friday evening.

"I think the players did a great job being patient," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "I think winning on the road is the hardest thing to do so any points you can steal on the road are great."

After a scoreless first 80 minutes of play, junior Isabelle Smith earned an unassisted goal at 84:11 to give the Cowgirls a late 1-0 lead.

Smith continued her relevancy, assisting classmate Cassandra Romero on her first collegiate goal at the 86:48 mark to solidify the 2-0 victory.

Senior Briana O'Dell was credited with the victory with her and junior Jackie Kelly both earning the combined shutout.

McNeese continues its road trip against HCU on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Sorrels Field and will be streamed on ESPN+.
