NATCHITOCHES, La. - McNeese's soccer program (5-4-2, 2-0-1 SLC) defeated Northwestern State (4-7-0, 2-2-0 SLC) 2-0 with two late goals in the final six minutes of play to claim its second conference victory at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex Friday evening.
"I think the players did a great job being patient," said head coach
Drew Fitzgerald. "I think winning on the road is the hardest thing to do so any points you can steal on the road are great."
After a scoreless first 80 minutes of play, junior
Isabelle Smith earned an unassisted goal at 84:11 to give the Cowgirls a late 1-0 lead.
Smith continued her relevancy, assisting classmate
Cassandra Romero on her first collegiate goal at the 86:48 mark to solidify the 2-0 victory.
Senior
Briana O'Dell was credited with the victory with her and junior
Jackie Kelly both earning the combined shutout.
McNeese continues its road trip against HCU on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Sorrels Field and will be streamed on ESPN+.
