BATON ROUGE – McNeese will crank up its 2024 indoor track & field season on Friday when the Cowboys and Cowgirls take part in the LSU Purple Tiger Relays.
 
Events will get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the women's weight throw.
 
Running events will start at 1 with the men's 60-meter hurdle prelims followed by the women at 1:15.
 
Headlining the Cowgirls' squad is weight thrower Mariah Lee who placed second at last year's Southland Indoor Championships and won gold in the hammer throw during the outdoor season.
 
Sakari Famous, the 2022 SLC champion in the high jump, will return to action after missing most of last indoor season and the entire outdoor slate.
 
On the men's side, distance runner Omer El-Fadl is coming off an outdoor campaign that saw him win gold in the 1500-meters and silver in the 800m. He's entered to run the 3,000 on Friday.
 
Marcus Francis, the league's indoor and outdoor silver medalist in the shot put last season, will compete in the shot event as well as the weight throw. Also in the throwing area, Tyler Challis will compete in the weight event where he finished fifth at last year's SLC indoor meet but captured a bronze medal in the hammer throw at the outdoor meet.
