BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – McNeese track and field returns to indoor action on Friday when it competes at the Samford Open at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
 
Events will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Running events will start at 11:40 with the women's 60m trials.
 
Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls have several athletes entered that are ranked in the top three in the Southland Conference in their respective events.
 
In the springs, Cowboy freshman Koen Beavers will compete in the 60-meter dash where he clocked a 6.76 at last week's LSU Purple Tiger and ranking him No. 2 in the conference. On the women's side, junior Latavia Jack is ranked third in the 60-metes following a 7.61 time at the same LSU meet. Jack will also run the 200 meters for the first time.
 
Cowgirl high jumper Sakari Famous, who is coming off a school record-tying mark of 5-10.75 at LSU, will go for her second win of the season while in throws for the Cowgirls, Jaslyn Russell (3^rd in shot put in SLC) and Mariah Lee (1^st in weight throw) will look to improve on their bests from last week.
 
The Cowboys will be well represented in the throwing events as well. Abner Johnson (3^rd in shot put) will compete in both the shot and the weight throw while Tyler Challis (3^rd in weight throw) will also compete in both events.
