WBB: Late game turnovers costly in 74-59 loss to UNO

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball couldn't get a stop, nor could they score down the stretch in its 74-59 Southland Conference women's basketball loss to New Orleans Saturday.
 
McNeese (4-17, 0-8 SLC) trailed 66-57 with 3:13 left in the game but UNO (7-12, 4-4 SLC) outscored the Cowgirls 8-2 the rest of the way to claim the win.
 
The Cowgirls didn't help their cause in the final three minutes of the game by going 0-2 from the field with seven turnovers.  UNO took advantage of those turnovers and scored six points off of those turnovers.
 
Emilia Tenbrock led McNeese with 17 points while Julia Puente pitched in with 16.
 
UNO was led in scoring by Nora Francois' game high 22 points.  DeArica Pryor added 20 points while Alexis Calderon and Justice Ross ended with 16 and 12, respectively.
 
McNeese ended the game shooting 29.8 percent from the field (17 of 57) and UNO shot 44.8 percent (26 of 58).  The Cowgirls were narrowly outrebounded 40-36 and UNO scored 34 points in the paint.
 
1st Quarter
• UNO held a 21-11first quarter lead ending the quarter shooting 56.3 percent ( 9-16) from the field
• McNeese shot 27.8 percent (5-18) from the field including 1 of 8 from three-point range
 
2nd Quarter
• UNO opened the quarter on a 7-0 run and 12-0 since the end of the first quarter
• UNO outscored McNeese 14-9 in the quarter and held a 35-20 halftime lead
• McNeese shot 25.9 percent from the field in the half, UNO shot 48.1 percent
• UNO scored 14 of its points in the paint in the half and outrebounded the Cowgirls 22-14 in the half
 
3rd Quarter
• McNeese trailed by 13 midway through the quarter and cut the lead to 11 points with 2:15 left in the quarter on two free throws by Mireia Yespes
• McNeese went on a 9-0 run within a 2:07 span to cut the lead to six points
• A three-pointer by Boston Berry cut the lead to eight points (46-38) and then Berry got a steal and layup to cut the lead to six (46-40) with less than a minute left in the quarter
• UNO ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to
 
4th Quarter
• McNeese trailed by 10 points (55-44) early in the quarter then cut it to nine (62-53) on a jumper by Emilia Tenbrock with 4:29 to play and then again on two free throws by Julia Puente with 3:47 left.
• The Cowgirls cut the lead to nine points (66-57) with 3:13 to play but went 0-2 with seven turnovers and UNO outscored McNeese 8-2 the rest of the game.
