LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball improved to 3-0 on the season with its 77-52 win over North American University (2-1) on Sunday.  The 3-0 start is the best start in program history since the 1997-98 team started 4-0.
 
Mireia Yespes' layup two minutes in the game gave the Cowgirls the early lead and one they never gave up.  The Cowgirls held a 35-18 halftime lead, but the Stallions outscored McNeese 20-19 in the third quarter and got as close as 11 points late in the quarter.
 
The Cowgirls would go on a 10-3 run to take its first 20-point lead (61-41) om two free throws by Tyrielle Williams.  Lyla Kahrimanovic's layup with 2:02 to play put the Cowgirls up by 30 (75-45).
 
McNeese placed three players in double figure scoring with Yespes leading the Cowgirls with 14 points on 5 of 10 from the field and 4 of 5 free throws.  Williams and Kahrimanovic both chipped in with 11 points apiece.
 
The Cowgirls outrebounded the Stallions 57-28 with Yespes leading the way with nine rebounds.
 
North American was led in scoring by Victoria Moore's game high 15 points.  Kayla Dickey ended with 14 points.
