BEAUMONT, Texas -- McNeese and Lamar volleyball went toe-to-toe in the first Battle of the Border of the season Saturday, but it was the Cardinals who prevailed with a 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-11) Southland Conference win in a match that consisted of 29 ties and 11 lead changes.
The two teams will meet for the second time this season in Lake Charles on Thursday, Nov. 14. McNeese will conclude the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 16
McNeese (9-17, 5-9 SLC) was led by senior
McKenzie Moore who led all players with a career high 29 kills and a career high 21 digs. The double double is also her ninth of the season.
Lacie Schooley ended the match with 16 kills which is a career high for her and
Naterah Moore finished with 11 kills.
Besides Moore,
Bailey Tillman and
Kendall Osgood recorded double figure digs. Tillman led all players with 24 and Osgood ended with 16.
For Lamar, the Cardinals were led by Maja Malinowska's 20 kills including eight in the final set.
Lamar out blocked the Cowgirls 13-0 in the match with Ashlyn Gamble and Lyric Jordan who both were credited with four apiece.

• Today's five set match is only the third of the season
• McNeese is 1-2 in five set matches this season with its five-set match win coming against Tarleton State on Sept. 17. It's other five set loss was against Incarnate Word on Sept. 13
