LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball picked up run rule wins over Tarleton State and Tennessee State by the scores of 11-3 and 10-0 Saturday on the second day of the Cowgirl Classic to improve to 3-1 on the year.

McNeese combined to score 21 runs on 14 hits including four homeruns and three doubles.

Emily Phillips and
Chloe Gomez led the Cowgirls on the day with three hits apiece while
Corine Poncho hit two homeruns, giving her three on the year. Gomez and
Rylie Bouvier also hit their first homeruns of the season that led to Gomez's six RBI day.

In the circle, senior
Ashley Vallejo (1-0) made her first appearance of the season and picked up the win over Tarleton State.Â

After allowing three hits and three runs to the first six batters she faced, Vallejo allowed one more hit and one walk the rest of the game.

In the nightcap, senior
Shaelyn Sanders (1-1) was lights out in her first win of the season, allowing only two hits in the game and striking out nine of the 17 batters she faced. Sanders started the game by striking out five of the first six batters she faced then ended the game in the fifth inning with three strikeouts.

The Cowgirl Classic will conclude Sunday with an 11 a.m. game between Lamar and Tennessee State before McNeese will take on Tarleton State at 1:30 p.m. to conclude tournament play.
