FRISCO, Texas – McNeese Cowgirl senior thrower
Mariah Lee has been named this week's Southland Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
In picking up her first weekly honor on the indoor season, Lee improved on her No. 1 conference ranking in the weight throw when she set a new personal record with a throw of 63-feet, 9 ½-inches for a first-place finish at the LSU Twilight Meet last Friday.
It was the second win of the indoor season for the Corsicana, Texas native, and the third top three finish in five indoor meets on the season.
Her mark moved her up to a No. 5 ranking in the NCAA South Central Region and No. 70 on the NCAA Indoor Qualifying list.
Lee will carry her No. 1 ranking into the 2024 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning Sunday in Birmingham where she aims to win the gold medal in the weight throw event after placing second last season.
She's the third Cowgirl and fourth selection for Athlete of the Week this season. High jumper

Jeny Barcenas was named Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 31.
