Jaslyn Russell named SLC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year

FRISCO, Texas – McNeese Cowgirl thrower Jaslyn Russell has been named the 2026 Southland Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Year for the Indoor Season, the league announced on Wednesday.
 
Russell scored 18 points to lead the Cowgirls at last week's conference indoor championships.
 
She became the first Cowgirl in school history to win become a league champion and win a gold medal in the shot put event when she threw 49-11.75. She added a second place finish and silver medal in the weight throw event with a mark of 58-6.
 
For the season, Russell had three first place finishes, one second, and a third in the shot put in five meets. In the weight event, she finished first twice, second and third once, and a fifth place.
 
A native of Oakdale, Russell is the third Cowgirl with the fourth selection in school history to earn the Field Athlete of the Year Award. La'Shantena Rounds won the award in 2012 and 2014, and Morgan Talley picked up the award in 2023.
